IMITATION vs. EMULATION
Written by toldaddy

Lets start off by defining the two:

Imitation - fake: a counterfeit; copy.
Emulation - effort or desire to equal or excel others.

In the creative world artists walk the fine line between the two. On the one hand you have an individual observing fine art who tries to duplicate what has already been done (imitation), and on the other you have a person who would observe the same work of art with the desire to create something original which is inspired from the art (emulation).

There’s not a whole lot of originality being pushed in the comic book world, most titles coming out are regurgitated characters, stories, worlds, etc. Everyone is playing it safe, which is somewhat understandable, BUT it’s imitation.

NO industry is best served when everyone is playing it safe! When risks are taken industries flourish! This is why INDY comics are SO important. We keep this in mind and constantly remind ourselves to push the envelope of our creativity in every issue we release. Each title we release is completely unique to each other, and stands alone as a fine piece of art. We strive to emulate the fantastic risks taken by the comic pioneers who made comics great to begin with.

In our planning sessions we constantly explore new ideas, to keep our work fresh. Ideas that would normally get shot down for being too ‘risky’ or ‘over the top’ at any other studio are given a chance which breathes a fresh breath of life into our comics. If it’s been done already, you won’t see it again in our books. Originality inspired by the art that drove us to comics in the first place is what fuels us, and you’re going to love it.

We really do have the best ‘unknowns’ in the comic book industry working at this company.
